This is to announce that the "ARAKAN ROHINGYA COUNCIL (ARC)" was formed by an agreement of more than 135 representatives from different Rohingya organizations and individuals worldwide at the Rohingya National Convention that was held on May 31, 2008 near the border areas of Arakan State, Union of Burma. The ARC is an alliance of the Rohingya organizations from all over the world and individuals which allowed the existing Rohingya organizations remain independent for the time being but work together within the ARC with the aim of promoting national unity.
It is also to announce that a working committee for ARC was set up with the following representatives (the name of the organization is attached beside the name of each member respectively) with the purpose of - to draft a constitution for ARC, to invite all individuals and existing Rohingya organizations worldwide to consolidate the ARC, and to convene Rohingya Congress within no later than 15 November 2008. The members of working committee are as:-
(1) Dr. Mohammad Yunus (Arakan League for Justice and Freedom, ALJF) (2) Salim Ullah (Arakan Rohingya National Organization, ARNO) (3) Hafez Mohammad Jaber (Rohingya Solidarity Organization, RSO) (4) Mohammad Haroon (Rohingya League for Democracy (Burma), RLDB) (5) Tin Shwe (Burmese Rohingya Association in Japan, BRAJ) (6) Mohammed Shafi Ullah (Social Cooperative Society, SCS) and (7) Mohammed Ayub ( A Rohingya Student)
It is also to be known that The ARC will be as inclusive as possible and include both political and civil society organizations. Priority will be given to the inclusion of women and youth in the affairs of the Council.
Organizations and individuals that participated in the decision to establish the Arakan Rohingya Council (ARC) were as follows: -

Arakan Rohingya Refugee Committee, Kutupalong, Bangladesh 8. Burmese Rohingya Association in Japan 9. Burmese Rohingya Community in Australia 10. Iffihael-Attullab-Al Muslimeen/United Students Organization of Arakan 11. Kaladan Press Network, Bangladesh 12. RNP, Saudi Arabia 13. Rohingya League for Democracy (Burma), Saudi Arabia 14. Rohingya Solidarity Organization 15. Rohingya Solidarity Organization (Mansoori) 16. Rohingya Students Association, Bangladesh 17. Samonoy, Bangladesh, AND 18. (3) individuals.
The Convention was monitored by Mr. Harn Yawnghwe (the Director of Euro-Burma Office, Brussels), and Mr. Jack Sterken (the Secretary of National Reconciliation Programme, Union of Burma). Dr. Khin Maung, (Chairman, National Unity Party of Arakan) was also attended as a guest observer. |
